You may not have thought too much about your car or truck’s lug bolt pattern, or even heard the term before! But it’s important to know your vehicle’s proper lug bolt pattern if you ever run into a situation where you need to change out your vehicle’s wheels. Fortunately, the service team at Chevrolet Center Inc is here to help.
In short, if you look at the very center of your vehicle’s wheel, you’ll see a certain number of lug nuts encircling the Chevy logo. If you need new wheels, the number of lug nuts have to match exactly, not only in number but in distance from each other (measured in millimeters). If you drive a Chevy SUV or pickup truck, chances are your vehicle uses a 6-lug pattern. There are four total patterns—four-bolt, five-bolt, six-bolt, and eight-bolt.
So, are all Chevy 6-lug patterns the same? The short answer is yes—probably. Chevy mostly uses the same lug bolt patterns for their SUVs and trucks, but you’ll still want to confirm your make and model with our service center before you make any commitments. Read on for some key information about the Chevy 6-lug bolt pattern, and feel free to contact us if you have any questions!
Now that we’ve answered the question of whether Chevy uses the same pattern for their 6-lug patterns, let’s turn to a more fundamental question: what is the bolt pattern for a Chevy 6-lug wheel?
In addition to the number of lugs around the center of the wheel, you also have to be aware of the diameter in inches or millimeters. Bolt patterns are expressed using these two values—for example, a “5-100mm” pattern has five lug nuts and a circular diameter of 100 mm. For their 6-lug wheels, Chevy almost always uses a pattern of 6-5.5in, meaning there are six lugs and the circle measures 5.5 inches in diameter.
While it’s very likely that your Chevy’s 6-lug pattern will be 5.5 inches across since Chevy mostly uses the same patterns for all of their trucks and SUVs, it’s not guaranteed. You can measure the diameter yourself to confirm, or you can bring your vehicle in and our service team can do it for you. If you want to measure it for yourself, you’re in luck—it’s much easier to measure even-numbered lug patterns than odd-numbers ones! All you have to do is take a ruler or tape measure, start at the center of one bolt, and measure to the center of the opposite bolt. Record the diameter in inches or millimeters and you’ll be all set!
